Finding Your Way to NYC Camp

The United Nations' global headquarters is located in midtown Manhattan.

We will be using the UN Entrance at 47th Street & 1st Avenue.

Below are directions for getting to the UN.

Traveling from the airport

From La Guardia Airport:

Take either the Q70 bus to Roosevely Av/74 St. Take the M or E subway to the Lexington Avenue/53rd St. Exit near the intersection of E 53rd St and 3rd Ave. Go East on E 53rd St towards 2nd Ave. Turn right onto 1st Ave to get to 47th St and 1st Ave.

From JFK Airport:

Take the JFK airtrain shuttle to the Sutphin/Jamaica station. Take the E subway to Lexington Avenue/53rd St. Exit near the intersection of E 53rd St and 3rd Ave. Go East on E 53rd St towards 2nd Ave. Turn right onto 1st Ave to get to 47th St and 1st Ave.

From Newark Airport:

Take the Newark Airport Express from Newark Airport Station to 5th Ave/Bryant Park. Go East on E 42nd St towards Madison Ave. Turn left onto 2nd Ave and then turn right onto E 47th St to get to 47th St and 1st Ave.

Cabs and car services are available at the airport and, even though they cost more, they are your best bet if you have a lot of luggage. Plan on spending at least $25 to $40 depending on the airport and time of day.

Traveling by train (Metro North, LIRR, Amtrak, PATH)

From Metro North into Grand Central Station:

You can either walk to take the 6 subway uptown to 51st St and then walk to get to 47th St and 1st Ave.

Long Island Rail Road (LIRR)

From Hunters Point Av, take the 7 subway to Grand Central Station. Go East on E 42nd St towards Park Ave. Turn left onto 2nd Ave and then turn right onto E 47th St to get to 47th St and 1st Ave.

Amtrak into Pennsylvania Station:

Take the E subway to Lexington Avenue/53rd St. Exit near the intersection of E 53rd St and 3rd Ave. Go East on E 53rd str towards second avenue. Turn right onto 1st Ave to get to 47th St and 1st Ave.

PATH Trains from New Jersey

From the 23rd Path station, take the M subway to Lexington Avenue/53rd St. Exit near the intersection of E 53rd St and 3rd Ave. Go East on E 53rd str towards second avenue. Turn right onto 1st Ave to get to 47th St and 1st Ave.

Traveling by bus or subway

By Bus:

All Greyhound and New Jersey Transit buses go to the Port Authority Terminal. Port Authority marine terminals in New York and New Jersey are open and operating normally. From there, take the E subway to Lexington Avenue/53rd St. Exit near the intersection of E 53rd St and 3rd Ave. Go East on E 53rd str towards second avenue. Turn right onto 1st Ave to get to 47th St and 1st Ave.

Subway and Manhattan Bus

The most convenient bus lines to the UN are the M15, M42, M50, M101, M103, M1, M2, M3, M4 and the Q32. Nearby subway lines include the E, M, 7, 4, 5, 6, and S (shuttle).

Take the M or E subway to Lexington Avenue/53rd St. Exit near the intersection of E 53rd St and 3rd Ave. Go East on E 53rd str towards second avenue. Turn right onto 1st Ave to get to 47th St and 1st Ave.

Traveling by car

From the Bronx and Upstate NY:

Take the NY State Thruway, which becomes the Major Deegan Expressway in the Bronx, to the Triborough Bridge (toll). Cross to Manhattan taking the FDR Drive. Follow the FDR Drive south and merge onto E 49th St. To go directly to the entrance, turn left onto 2nd Ave. Turn left at the 3rd cross street onto E 46th St. Turn left onto 1st Ave and continue to 47th St.

From Connecticut

Take the New England Thruway (I-95) into the Bronx. Then, take the Bruckner Expressway (I-278) to the Triborough Bridge (toll). Cross to Manhattan taking the FDR Drive south and merge onto E 49th St. To go directly to the entrance, turn left onto 2nd Ave. Turn left at the 3rd cross street onto E 46th St. Turn left onto 1st Ave and continue to 47th St.

From the Northwest, West, and South including New Jersey

Take I-95 and/or the New Jersey Turnpike to the Lincoln Tunnel or the Holland Tunnel. If taking the Lincoln Tunnel, take the right tube and stay in the right lane, turning right onto Dyer Ave after exiting the tunnel. Turn right onto W 42nd St. Turn left onto 1st Ave.
If taking the Holland Tunnel, take the exit on the left towards Downtown. Take a slight right onto Laight St which will become Canal St. Turn left onto W Broadway. Turn right onto W Houston St. Turn left onto 1st Ave and continue to 47th St.

From the George Washington Bridge

Take Harlem River Dr toward FDR Dr/Manhattan. Continue onto FDR Drive south and merge onto E 49th St. To go directly to the entrance, turn left onto 2nd Ave. Turn left at the 3rd cross street onto E 46th St. Turn left onto 1st Ave and continue to 47th St.

From Brooklyn

Take the Manhattan Bridge. Off the bridge, turn right onto Bowery and continue to Cooper Sq. Continue to 3rd Ave and turn right onto E 40th St. Turn left onto 1st Avenue and continue to 47th St.

From Queens

Take the Midtown Tunnel and turn right onto Tunnel Exit St. Take the 1st right onto E 38th St. Turn left onto 1st Ave and continue to 47th St.

From Staten Island

Take the Staten Island Express across the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge crossing into Brooklyn. Take the Belt Parkway West to the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway (BQE) East to Battery Tunnel. Take the exit on the left toward FDR Drive/NY 9A N/West St. Continue onto FDR Drive and take exit 9 for E 42nd St. Turn right onto 1st Ave and continue to 47th St.

From Long Island

Take the Long Island Expressway (also called the L.I.E. or I-495) west to the Queens Midtown Tunnel. Turn right onto Tunnel Exit St. Take the 1st right onto E 38th St. Turn left onto 1st Ave and continue to 47th St.

There are also a couple of parking options with specials in the area if you are traveling by car.
